But not naming whole continents? I don't even know what to call this. I don't quite think it's laziness, but it's certainly something.

I don't mind this, because a lot of places even in the real world are described with their most prolific products. I would say that it gives clues as to how the people of the land sustain themselves.

If I saw this on a shelf somewhere, I definitely wouldn't think 'religious text'. I would probably think 'farming manual.'

Anyone who tries to rely on just the things you grow is going to have a hard life. Crops fail all the time. Too much rain, not enough rain, insects, disease, temperature, the list goes on. You would almost have to turn to hunting and gathering, if only to supplement the things you grow.

Missed opportunity ahoy! This would be so much better if no one knew about that part, so everyone was led to believe that the military is 100% good, only to eventually find out that those who serve in it were doing so under false pretenses that they had no clue about. Otherwise, it just looks like, "We drove these other races out of their homes; aren't we great?"
